Glitvefnaður - Icelandic glit weave
Glitvefnaður
"Glit means something that glows. The pattern is facing the weaver, contrary to modern usage and is believed to have its uniqueness and irregularity from the old loom. Formerly it was used for cushions, bedspreads and altar fronts. The remaining samples of this type of weaving are mostly highly decorative saddle covers for women, woven after the introduction of the flat loom. "
